Historic Accomplishments
- NTDS - first all-digital system goes to sea August 1960
- Trieste - bathyscaph, January 23, 1960, descends 35,800 feet in Challenger Deep off Marianas Trench, bottom of the ocean
- Polaris, Poseidon, Trident testing, including first live launch of Polaris
- Developed Mark 32, 43, 44, 46, and 50 ASW torpedos
- Pioneer in early EHF SATCOM led to key role in support of Air Force Space Command on MILSTAR
- Underwater acoustics - Inter-Seamount Acoustic Range, positioned on two seamounts (Westfall and San Juan) 200 miles apart provide unique sonar range for detailed underwater sound propagation studies
- Towed Arrays’ - developers of SURTASS
- Ocean engineering - developed CURV I, key element in recovery of H-bomb from the Mediterranean; developed Stable Semi-submerged Platform as ocean test platform and aircraft platform
